Who We Are
People of Holy Hospitality and Welcome — We welcome more than 1,000 people every week to St. Paul’s, and we welcome you!
People of Diversity — St. Paul’s is one of the most diverse congregations in eastern Bergen County, gathering a faith community from more than 17 countries of origin and many ethnic backgrounds. The richness of our parish family is one of the jewels of our community life.
A Parish Family — For more than 150 years, we have gathered households to worship God, experience loving community, and minister to those in need. We share in worship and joyous gatherings through the depths of our Anglican tradition and our unique heritage. Our Parish includes households from as far away as Asia, the Caribbean, and Africa, and as close as Lydecker Street or Teaneck. Read a short overview of our history here.
People of Worship — We welcome all for worship. As a community of faith, the people of St. Paul’s find our center in the worship, and regular worship is at the heart of our parish family and community. As part of the global Anglican Communion, our worship follows the form of the Book of Common Prayer. All parish services are open to the public and span a diversity of styles—formal and informal, spoken and musical, intimate and large. In addition to regular weekly services, St. Paul’s is home to special worship opportunities throughout the year. These services are in observance of major feasts and Church seasons, as well as those connected to the larger Englewood and east Bergen County communities.
People of Prayer — We depend on God for everything for this life and the next. Within the embrace of God’s grace, we find strength, comfort, provision, and healing.
A Place for Families, Children, and Youth — We are committed to raise and guide even the youngest generations of God’s children in living our faith with Christ’s hope and grace. We gather children, youth, and families for regular monthly youth events, special events for families, household formation resources, our after-school Choir School, service projects, serving as acolytes and lay readers in worship, and our annual Summer Day Camp.
A Place for Community Transformation — Outreach is essential to our life together. Here are a few of the ways you can join Christ’s work in the world: our regular in-gatherings for the Center for Food Action; providing dinner for the Hoboken Clergy Coalition Soup Kitchen; hosting at-risk and transitioning families with Family Promise of Bergen County; helping young men of color through our Timothy Project Mentoring Ministry; or feeding those in need through our partnership with the Disabled Combat Veterans Youth Program and Table to Table Tuesdays.
A Place of Music — The St. Paul’s Choir School for grades kindergarten through high school is a comprehensive program in which students learn music theory and ear-training. Piano and voice lessons are also offered. The Choir School sings once a month as well as Evensongs and many other events. We also offer and host community concerts throughout the year.
A Place for Life’s Celebrations — St. Paul’s welcomes the opportunity to serve both parishioners and non-parishioners in need of elegant weddings and respectful funerals honoring the persons involved. There are no membership requirements for weddings or funerals.
People of Compassion — Community and Pastoral Care is provided for those who are hospitalized or homebound with visits from clergy and fellow parishioners. Communion is provided on a regular basis. Please call the parish office to let us know if you or a friend should be visited.
